The State Office for Mobility in Rhineland-Palatinate was working on the expansion of the federal road 10 (B 10) in the Palatinate Forest. Preliminary investigations were carried out and approval documents prepared for the expansion section between Hauenstein and Hinterweidenthal.
ANUVA prepared the faunistic planning area analysis, in which the potentially occurring animal species relevant for planning were determined and a faunistic survey program was compiled, which meets the requirements of the preliminary design and the approval planning. For the faunistic services, a performance specification was drawn up, on the basis of which the field surveys were put out to tender.
Particular constraints for the extension of the B 10 between Hauenstein and Hinterweidenthal are the narrow location of the existing road in a deeply incised valley and the railroad line running parallel to the existing road. The expected fauna in the planning area harbors a high potential for conflict. The forests north and south of the B 10 are the habitats of, among others, lynx and wildcat, the near-natural floodplain areas, rocks, slopes and near-natural flowing waters which are further habitat compartments of a multitude of species relevant for planning. The surveys carried out were correspondingly diverse.
