Bypass Cadolzburg – State Road St 2409

The Cadolzburg bypass is included in the 7th expansion plan for state roads in Bavaria in the 1st priority. The State Construction Office began planning a bypass of Cadolzburg at the end of 2013. In the course of public participation, a project workshop was initiated for the first time, consisting of Markt Cadolzburg, various interest groups, individuals, the Nuremberg State Construction Office and a moderator. In the course of a Bavaria-wide pilot project, the Landscape Design Working Group accompanied the project as an advisory body. The decision on whether to continue the planning was made in a citizens' referendum.

Task

ANUVA prepared the environmental impact study with species protection conflict assessment and FFH preliminary assessment for a total of six variants. Interim results and the final result were presented in project workshop, citizens' assembly and project fair. Furthermore, ANUVA was part of the landscape design working group.

Challenge

Cadolzburg is located on the edge of the Nuremberg-Erlangen-Fuerth metropolitan area, historically on a ridge with good views into and out of the surrounding landscape. The landscape is characterized by high-quality forest areas on the ridge, relics of large scattered orchards, interspersed allotments on the so-called grave land, water bodies, ponds, grassland and large agricultural fields. To the east of the main village, the districts of Egersdorf and Wachendorf are located at a short distance, so that only a narrow corridor is available for an eastern variant. The topography, the special significance of the historic castle ensemble for the region, and the protected areas located in the study area represent further significant factors that had to be taken into account when conducting the environmental impact study.
