Renewable Energies & Environment

The development of renewable energies is an important goal of our country. Its implementation in harmony with nature and landscape is possible.

On behalf of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN), we are conducting research with BioConsult-SH and ARSU GmbH on ways to avoid the impairment of bird fauna by wind power plants (more information)

For your projects in the field of wind power, hydropower and solar energy, we prepare all environmental documents for site identification, regional planning procedures, approval according to the Federal Immission Control Act, or for urban land use planning, such as environmental impact studies, landscape management plans, development plans, environmental reports, recording of the relevant animal species and biotopes, species protection assessments and much more.

Transport & Environment

An intact and nature-compatible transport infrastructure is essential in a mobile society. In an increasingly intensively used landscape, roadside areas can also contribute to habitat connectivity.

We worked with the expert network of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) on the promotion of biodiversity in the transport sector (more Informationenhttps://anuva.de/news/72/fe-biodiversitaet-verkehrsnebenflaechen). Our current research, on behalf of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), studies the question of whether roadside areas are ecological traps (to the  project).

In another research for the BASt, the “Service specifications for faunistic surveys,” we demonstrated our results through practical training events for members of road construction administrations from various states.

We provide environmental support for road construction projects that serve the needs of our society. Our task is not limited to preventing worst-case scenarios. Rather, we leverage design and compensation measures as opportunities to introduce species-rich habitats into the landscape. Considering the fact that all roadside areas in Germany are roughly equal in size to all the country’s nature reserves combined, their importance for biodiversity cannot be underestimated.

Municipal Development

Both the development, redensification and conversion of residential, commercial and local supply areas require environmental monitoring.

In settlements, different user interests often closely coincide. People need living and working space, utilities, transport infrastructure, communicative public spaces and recreational areas. At the same time, disturbing or polluting the fundamental elements of life such as air, soil and water should be avoided as far as possible. In addition, parks, gardens and fallow land contain a variety of animal and plant species, some of which are protected and should be considered in planning.

We support municipalities and private developers in urban land use planning. Together with project partners from urban planning, we offer the preparation of land use plans and development plans as well as the associated environmental documents such as environmental reports, species protection contributions, contributions to the Water Framework Directive or FFH compatibility and other required expert opinions. Our references in urban planning range from the expansion and redensification of company sites (Adidas headquarters "World of Sports” in Herzogenaurach, Siemens sites on Frauenauracher Straße, Siemens Campus Erlangen in Wertheim Village) to the development of hospital sites (Wertheim), residential areas (Zirndorf-Anwanden), sewage treatment plants (Erlangen) to land use and landscape plans (Schwabach, Gößweinstein, Maroldsweisach, among others).

Nature Conservation Management

Few protected areas can be left to fend for themselves. Often, maintenance or traditional forms of use are needed to maintain the original diversity of endangered habitats.

We have experience preparing the maintenance and development plans or management plans for Natura 2000 areas for the responsible authorities, e.g. bird sanctuaries “Nürnberger Reichswald”, “Markwald bei Baiersdorf”, "Felsen- und Hangwälder in der Fränkischen Schweiz” (rock and slope forests in Franconian Switzerland) or the Fauna-Flora-Habitat areas of “Bergwiesen im südlichen Fichtelgebirge” (mountain meadows in the southern Fichtel mountains), “Baunachtal zwischen Reckendorf und Baunach” (Baunach valley between Reckendorf and Baunach), “Wiesent-Tal mit Seitentälern” (Wiesent valley with side valleys).

Raw Material Securing & Species Protection

The securing of raw materials through the extraction of stone or earth is usually accompanied by the creation of valuable habitats for a limited period of time.

However, habitats can also be lost as a result of the work. In the course of the approval of such projects, therefore, nature conservation, and above all species conservation, plays a major role.

Our focus in these projects is to study the affected animal and plant species and to plan the measures necessary to preserve or restore their habitats or their populations in the long term.

Pipeline Systems for Data, Electricity, Oil and Gas

The laying of fiber optic cables, pipelines for oil, various chemical products or gas, as well as overhead and underground power lines always represent an encroachment on nature and the landscape.

During construction, trees and forests are removed or meadows and other biotopes are dug up. However, the implementation of the pipeline systems reduces other means of transport, such as trucking and shipping, which helps to avoid environmental risks and impairments.

We accompany projects through the entire process, from the search for the best route with the least impact on the natural balance (e.g. documents for the regional planning procedure with environmental impact assessment for the planned product pipeline of Bayernoil AG), through approval (e.g. operating permit for the MERO long-distance mineral oil pipeline from Vohburg a.d. Donau to Nelahozeves, Czech Republic) to environmental construction supervision during construction or as part of maintenance work (e.g. MERO, B-Net connecting lines of Bayernoil GmbH between Vohburg–Münchsmünster–Neustadt a. d. Donau).
